“Changing the brains mind about pain, through touch.”
The primary philosophy for successful treatment is Nathan’s understanding of orthopedic assessment as well as the understanding of how to treat common and not so common pain syndromes. Nathan has over 20 years’ experience and has done countless hours on the table. Assess and treat and Treat and assess is my motto-I also work with educating my clients with movements to do at home-Much of the “home-work” I offer is out of the box thinking to improve movement balance and coordination which play a large role in movement.
What is Brain Based Bodywork?
Brain-Based Bodywork” reflects a modern understanding that pain isn’t just physical—it’s also shaped by how the brain interprets signals. Pain is defined as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage; the brain can unlearn when given new, safe experiences. Chronic pain often lingers after tissue healing due to fear, altered movement, and nervous system sensitization. MAT works to change this by building trust, involving clients actively in their sessions, and introducing novel, non-threatening movements. These movements capture the brain’s attention and help it update outdated pain patterns. Using graded exposure, therapists work just at the edge of discomfort—never pushing through pain—so the nervous system feels safe enough to change. MAT techniques engage both brain and body, using neurological pathways to reduce guarding, restore movement, and promote lasting relief. When clients feel safe, empowered, and involved, the brain can truly change its mind about pain.
